Your Guide to Enzyme Peels: Beginner Peels for Healthy Skin

Looking for glowing skin, but not sure where to start? Do all of the facial treatments and array of skincare services seem overwhelming? Trust me, we get it. Here at Amy Danielle Beauty, we want to break down every aspect of taking care of your skin and dive into how it can help you reach your beauty goals.

If you’re even remotely into taking care of your skin, you know how important a good exfoliant can be for your skincare routine. While that’s true, there are plenty of different ways to go about exfoliating your skin. We’re here to go over one specific type of exfoliant – enzyme peels.

How is an enzyme peel different from a regular peel?

enzyme peel

To start us off, we need to understand the difference between the enzyme peel and a standard chemical peel as they are two very separate services. Of the two, the one you’ve heard the most about is probably the chemical peel. The chemical peel uses both AHA’s and BHA’s to break down the dead, dull skin on your face. Alternatively, an enzyme peel is much more gentle on the skin and uses enzymes found in fruit to eat away at dead skin. It’s perfect for those new to skincare treatments, and specifically peels.

Enzyme peels are actives, they use fruit enzymes to digest dead skin cells

The use of fruit enzymes is much more powerful than you would expect. After all, how can fruit help exfoliate your skin? The process is wonderful! When the enzymes are added to the skin, they accelerate the chemical reaction that your body produces naturally. This causes dead skin cells to be broken down and removed from the face. All of this happens without any damage to existing, healthy skin or any unwanted irritation.

As they consume dead skin cells, they provide deep nourishment to the skin

On top of removing the dead outermost layers of skin, these enzymes work hard to provide deep nourishment to developing skin cells. Not only does the newly exposed, fresh skin take in the hydrating benefits of any facial products you add on following your treatment, it also creates a barrier to protect your skin from harmful pollutants and keeps moisture in.

Enzyme peels are an effective treatment for UV damage

Unfortunately, sun damage is just one of the many issues we have to deal with on a regular basis. Our skin is so frequently exposed to UV rays that it seems almost impossible to prevent skin damage. On the bright side, regularly using enzyme peels can aid in speeding up your body’s natural restorative process and begin reversing the signs of sun damage.

Your esthetician will guide you toward preventative measures you can take in the future. Applying SPF during your morning skincare routine is the best way to prevent sun damage!

What to expect during your enzyme peel appointment

For those of you who have never had a peel appointment, there’s no need to worry! We’ve taken the time to put together everything we think you should know about your appointment and how to prepare.

What are the benefits of my enzyme peel treatment?

Like most facial treatments, the payoff is happy, healthy, rejuvenated skin! Additionally, this variety of peel offers lovely results without the acids found in standard chemical peels. This means that all skin types, even those with sensitive skin, can reap the benefits of getting rid of fine lines and discoloration without any redness and irritation that comes with a standard chemical peel.

Will it cause any pain or discomfort?

We offer two types of enzyme peels here at Amy Danielle Beauty. Neither our Pumpkin Enzyme peel or our Caviar Lime and Passion Fruit enzyme peel should cause any pain or discomfort. Let your esthetician know about any allergies or sensitivities you’re aware of prior to your appointment.

What aftercare should you expect after your treatment?

If your normal daily routine already consists of lathering on some sunblock, then you are off to a great start! We recommend a gentle cleanser, customized serums, moisturizer, SPF, and an at home chemical exfoliant in your routine for preventing and treating skin care concerns. We are happy to help you create your customized skin care routine to help you get the best results possible! Having a customized skin care routine ends up saving you money and a lot of time and gets you to your skin care goals faster.

Follow additional advice your esthetician leaves you with to get the best results out of each session. While your skin concerns are treated during an appointment, it’s vital to follow through on a daily skincare routine.
